I am a graduate student in the University of Minnesota's Graduate Program in Neuroscience. I am interested in understanding vision as a generative process in which the brain uses countless top-down predictions and heuristics to actively shape visual representations. One way the visual system acts as an active generative processor is by enhancing or suppressing local visual features based on their relationships to the broader spatial context of visual scenes. My research incorporates data from a combination of neuroimaging methodologies, including high-field human fMRI and two-photon Ca2+-imaging in ferrets, to enable the construction of computational models that explain visual context integration at the circuit level.
